Biography
Rachel Hernandez has enjoyed dance class her entire life but began her professional studies in Salvador, Bahia. She has had the privilege to study with landmark masters such as; Mestre King, Joffre Santos, Rosangela Silvestre, Nildinha Fonseca, Vera Passos, Matias Santiago as well as at the Escola de Danca, Bale Folclorico da Bahia, and UFBA. Being a diverse dancer she is skilled in Afro-Brazilian Diaspora and Modern as well as ballet. Rachel has danced with Grupo Genisis, Bale da Mata, Fusion Dance Company, Ballet Santa Barbara, and in the legendary production Saure. She has worked for the Children’s Creative project and LA's BEST introducing afro-brazilian dance to many elementary school children. She has choreographed for Ballet Santa Barbara nationally as well Capoeira Batuque Japao in Japan internationally. She currently performs with Viver Brasil, Ballet Folclorico do Brasil internationally and in many local afro-brazilian festivals and events. Rachel also studies the art of capoeira under Mestre Amen Santo.
